About the Composer: Adrian B. Sims

Adrian B. Sims is a Seattle-born composer and trombonist who began his professional rise while still in high school. A University of Maryland student pursuing dual degrees in Music Education and Composition, he studies composition with Dr. Robert Gibson and has benefited from mentorship by Brian Balmages. His work has appeared at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, earned recognition on the Bandworld Top 100 List, and won multiple composition competitions through the Maryland Music Educators Association and Make Music.

As both a performer and conductor, Sims brings practical understanding of ensemble needs to his writing. He has performed in symphony orchestras, jazz ensembles, and concert bands, studied alongside the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra during his high school years, and currently performs in the top ensembles at Maryland. His education and conducting experience across schools in Maryland inform his ability to write for developing musicians with clarity and musicality.
