About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages has established himself as a composer whose voice reaches across orchestral, band, and chamber music with equal fluency. His works have graced stages from Carnegie Hall to the Kennedy Center and Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles spanning from professional orchestras to school groups. He holds the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest, and serves as an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association.

As a conductor, Balmages leads regular engagements with all-state and regional ensembles worldwide, including appearances at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and numerous state ASTA conferences. He received the inaugural James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award and was commissioned by the University of Miami to compose for the presidential inauguration. Currently, he directs MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
