About This Collection

Description

The Federation Piano Solos collection brings together repertoire approved for festival play and contest performance across multiple levels. Teachers rely on titles like Lyric Preludes in Romantic Style by William L. Gillock, The Bean Bag Zoo Collector's Series by Catherine Rollin, and Grand Solos for Piano by Melody Bober to build student technique and musicality. You'll find arrangements of masterworks alongside original compositions in blues, ragtime, jazz, and Latin styles, with pieces ranging from early elementary through advanced.

Highlights

Teachers keep coming back to Melody Bober's Grand Solos for Piano, Book 3 and Dennis Alexander's Nocturnes, Book 1 for their blend of accessibility and musical substance. Catherine Rollin's Museum Masterpieces, Book B and The Bean Bag Zoo Collector's Series offer engaging context for students, pairing solo work with thematic interest that holds their attention beyond the page.

Composer Spotlight

Melody Bober studied music education at the University of Illinois and earned a master's degree in piano performance from Minnesota State University, Moorhead. Her approach centers on creating motivational pieces that deepen students' understanding and love of music, a philosophy evident in her widely adopted Grand Solos series.

Dennis Alexander has been a defining voice in educational piano publishing since 1986, with over 400 published works that span all student levels. His four-decade teaching career at the University of Montana, where he taught piano pedagogy, shaped both his understanding of what students need and his reputation as one of the most prolific composers in the field.

Catherine Rollin combines her own performing career with teaching and composing, having presented workshops and masterclasses across North America and Asia. Her work draws on formal training from the University of Michigan and Oakland University, and her compositions have earned numerous distinctions for their musical craft and pedagogical value.
