About This Collection

Description

This collection spans 6,653 titles across instruments, genres, and skill levels, anchored by core method books that have shaped music education for decades. Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One Course by Willard A. Palmer and Morton Manus remains a perennial choice for adult piano students, while Shinichi Suzuki's Violin School continues to guide young string players. You'll find extensive resources for piano, guitar, saxophone, and band instruments, with particular depth in concert band and jazz ensemble materials.

Highlights

Teachers return consistently to Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One Course, Book 1 by Palmer and Manus for adult learners, and to Suzuki Violin School volumes 1 and 2 for young string students. The Alfred's Basic Piano Library sequence (Lesson Books 1A, 1B, and 2, all by Willard A. Palmer) anchors elementary and early intermediate instruction. Complete Color-Coded Flash Cards for piano provide a practical complement to method books at early elementary and late elementary levels.

Recently added

Recent additions include Dietrich Kessler's guitar courses (Kesslers Gitarrenkurs mit CD and Leichter Weg zum Gitarrenspiel mit CD), Jerzy Bartz's Let's Play Bongos, and Carsten Gerlitz's Das neue Arrangierbuch. These represent fresh entries across string and percussion instruction.

Composer & Author Spotlight

Willard A. Palmer stands out as a prolific pedagogical voice across 272 titles, with particular influence on piano method books. A world-renowned scholar and teacher, Palmer authored hundreds of published works translated into multiple languages, ranging from accordion and Hammond organ methods to solo pieces and choral works. His Alfred's Basic series remains foundational to how many teachers introduce piano.

Morton Manus shaped the trajectory of music publishing itself, serving as president of Alfred Music Publishing from 1952 to 2016. His 311 published titles include co-authorship of the Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One Course, a title that has introduced countless adult learners to piano.

E. L. Lancaster and Gayle Kowalchyk together authored Music for Little Mozarts, bringing their expertise in piano pedagogy to early childhood instruction. Lancaster, formerly Executive Editor of Piano for Alfred Music, taught piano pedagogy at the University of Oklahoma, while Kowalchyk currently teaches at California State University, Northridge and holds a doctorate in piano pedagogy from Teachers College, Columbia University. Their combined experience spans classroom piano instruction, teacher training, and curriculum design.
