William Owens brings three decades of classroom experience to his compositional work, having directed bands in Texas before his 2014 retirement. A VanderCook College of Music graduate, he has built a catalog of over 300 pieces for young ensembles, all grounded in his intimate understanding of what students need to play and what directors need to teach.

Owens holds membership in ASCAP, the Texas Music Educators Association, and Phi Beta Mu International, and his works appear on required lists across the country. His compositions are frequent subjects of music education analysis, cementing his reputation as a trusted voice in young band repertoire. When not composing, he divides his time between traveling and his well-documented passion for Chevrolet Corvettes.
