About the Composer: William Owens

William Owens brings three decades of classroom experience to his compositional work. A 1985 graduate of VanderCook College of Music, he spent 30 years as a band director in Texas before transitioning to full-time composition and conducting. Since 1993, he has created over 300 works for concert band, string orchestra, and chamber ensembles, earning recognition from ASCAP, the Texas Bandmasters Association, and his alma mater as a Distinguished Alumnus.

Owens is known for writing with young ensembles in mind, balancing musical substance with practical pedagogy. His pieces appear on required music lists across the country and have become cornerstones of the young band repertoire. He remains active as a clinician and guest conductor, and currently resides in Fort Worth, Texas.
