Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse holds degrees in Music Education and Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he received the Distinguished Alumni award. Early in his career, he spent eight years in music publishing, including a term on the Executive Board of the Music Publishers Association of America. As a composer, he has created over 800 choral works performed internationally across all voice types and skill levels.

Althouse is a writer member of ASCAP and a regular recipient of the ASCAP Special Award for his compositions. Beyond composing, he has collaborated with his wife Sally K. Albrecht on children's musicals, compiled vocal solo collections including Folk Songs for Solo Singers, and co-authored widely used pedagogical texts like The Complete Choral Warm-up Book and Accent on Composers. He served on the board of the North Carolina Master Chorale and currently serves on the National Advisory Board of the Folk Art Society of America.
