About the Composer: Michael Oare
Michael Oare brings three decades of classroom experience to his compositions for young musicians. After earning degrees in both composition and music education from Old Dominion University, he spent 33 years leading the Great Bridge Middle School bands in Chesapeake, Virginia, where his ensembles achieved superior ratings for 32 consecutive years. His works appear in GIA Publications' Teaching Music Through Performance series, and he currently conducts the Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia Concert Band while maintaining an active presence in state and national music education organizations.
Recognized as the 2016 Chesapeake Public Schools Middle School Teacher of the Year and a two-time recipient of the National Band Association's Citation of Excellence, Oare writes from deep understanding of what student musicians need to experience growth and success. He is an ASCAP member, performs with the Virginia Wind Symphony, and holds memberships in Phi Beta Mu and other professional associations.
