About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has established himself as a versatile composer and conductor whose works span orchestral, band, and chamber repertoires. His compositions have been championed by ensembles at every level, from professional orchestras performing in Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center to school groups across the globe. He received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest. As an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association, Balmages brings both compositional craft and conducting experience to his work.
His professional reach extends internationally through guest conducting appearances at major conferences including the Midwest Clinic and Western International Band Clinic, as well as performances in venues ranging from Sydney Opera House to Teatro dell'Aquila in Italy. Balmages holds degrees from James Madison University and the University of Miami, and currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic, positioning him at the center of contemporary music education publishing.
