About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages has built an international reputation as a composer and conductor working across orchestral, band, and chamber idioms. His works have been heard in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to school groups. He holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association and has received major recognitions including the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light.

Beyond composition, Balmages maintains an active conducting schedule with all-state and regional ensembles as well as university and professional groups worldwide. His alma maters, James Madison University and the University of Miami, have both honored him significantly: JMU awarded him their inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award, and Miami commissioned him to compose for the institution's presidential inauguration. Currently, he serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
