John Carter has established himself as a prolific composer of choral music, bringing more than four decades of experience to his craft. Since 1978, he has collaborated with Mary Kay Beall on hundreds of compositions spanning multiple genres and skill levels. Together they have directed choirs across elementary through college settings, church music programs, and commissioned works for commemorative occasions. Their creative output includes a dozen musicals and a sacred opera alongside their extensive choral catalog.

Recognized for versatility and craftsmanship, Carter's work reflects deep knowledge of ensemble capabilities at every level. He serves as Director of Music at the University Baptist Church in Columbus, Ohio, and as Editor Emeritus at Hope Publishing. Both Carter and Beall hold membership in ASCAP and the American Choral Directors Association, receiving annual ASCAP recognition since 1984 for their contributions to choral literature.
