About the Composer: Timothy Loest

Timothy Loest

Timothy Loest has spent over thirty years in the middle school classroom, where he developed a reputation for creating music that speaks directly to young musicians and their directors. His compositions and pedagogical materials are performed in schools across the country, and his work has appeared on national television broadcasts including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Good Morning America. In 2017, his piece Cloud Gate drew an audience of over 5,000 at Chicago's Millennium Park, and that same year he received the Cloyd Myers Memorial Award for Excellence in Music Education from the Illinois Grade School Music Association.

Beyond his classroom practice, Loest founded Fanfare Music Press in 2022 to publish high-quality band compositions and arrangements. He holds degrees from Illinois State University and Northwestern University, maintains membership in ASCAP, and regularly accepts commissions. His methods and arrangements have become standards in band programs nationwide, including the widely-used Measures of Success curriculum. He resides in Illinois with his family and continues to shape instrumental music education through both his writing and his direct work with student musicians.
