Description
Featuring two melodic motives that are developed texturally and rhythmically throughout the piece, Vistas begins in a light, reflective manner before gradually building into a majestic contrapuntal statement by the brass. A driving percussion introduction begins the Vigoroso section and provides the rhythmic foundation for the second "Vista." This minor setting of the initial motives provides an exciting variation that features a variety of meter changes and syncopated passages. A restatement of the initial motives with the driving rhythmic accompaniment begins an extended conclusion that brings the piece to a dynamic finish.

About the Composer: Steve Hodges
Steve Hodges holds degrees from Western Oregon University (Bachelor of Science) and Central Washington University (Master of Music Education). He spent four decades as a public school music educator, directing concert and jazz bands, choirs, and chamber ensembles across multiple grade levels.
Since 1986, Hodges has composed more than 120 concert band works published by Alfred Music, along with choral arrangements released through Staff Music and Shawnee Press. His pieces have appeared at festivals and state music conventions worldwide and have been commissioned by honor bands and school programs in Virginia, Iowa, Winnipeg, British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, and North Carolina. His music has also been featured on TBS and ESPN broadcasts. Hodges holds membership in the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and has received multiple standard awards. He has taught at Central Washington University and currently resides in The Dalles, Oregon.
