About the Composer: Michael Oare
Michael Oare holds degrees in both composition and music education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Over a 33-year tenure as Director of Bands at Great Bridge Middle School in Chesapeake, Virginia, he built a program of remarkable consistency, earning superior ratings on 32 of those 33 years while performing advanced repertoire. His compositions have earned recognition through inclusion in GIA Publications' Teaching Music Through Performance series, and he currently conducts the Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia Concert Band.
Beyond the classroom, Oare remains active as a composer, arranger, conductor, and adjudicator. He is a member of ASCAP and Phi Beta Mu, performs with the Virginia Wind Symphony, and has received the National Band Association's Citation of Excellence twice. His work reflects a deep understanding of what young musicians need to grow musically and what teachers need to build strong programs.
