About the Composer: Dave Black
Dave Black is a percussionist and composer whose work bridges classical composition with contemporary band music. Educated in percussion performance at California State University, Northridge, he has spent decades traveling internationally as both performer and recording artist alongside established entertainers and theatrical productions. His catalog includes more than 60 published compositions and arrangements through major music publishers, many of which have been commercially recorded.
Black's contributions to music education extend across multiple platforms. He holds 26 consecutive ASCAP Popular Composer Awards, two GRAMMY Award recognition certificates, and has been recognized by the Percussive Arts Society and Modern Drummer magazine for his pedagogical work. Alfred's Drum Method, which he authored, remains one of the world's best-selling percussion instructional books. His compositions have appeared as source material in film and television, including the feature Drumline. With over 30 instructional books to his name and global sales exceeding two million units, Black's influence on young musicians spans continents.
