About the Composer: Loreta Fin

Loreta Fin AM studied violin at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and performed as concertmaster with the Sydney Youth Orchestra before establishing herself as a chamber and orchestral musician. She has served as Principal Viola with the Queensland Pops Orchestra for over 25 years and directed the strings program at Somerville House School in Brisbane since 1993. Her work has earned her recognition as both an educator and advocate for strings in Australia; she chaired the Australian Strings Association at state and national levels, received a Queensland State Award for services to string teaching in 2009, and was honored with the National Award for Services to Music and String Teaching.

Fin has composed more than 100 works for string orchestra published internationally by Alfred Music, with particular focus on accessible repertoire for young ensembles. She has presented at multiple Australian National Music Conferences and two American National String Teachers' Conferences, adjudicated major competitions across Australia, and examined for the Australian Music Examinations Board. Since 2015, she has regularly conducted state and national honors ensembles programs, and in 2018 and 2019 conducted the Miri Music Project in Malaysia. Her work in string education earned her a nomination for the inaugural ARIA 'Best Teacher' award.
