About the Composer: James D. Ployhar

James D. Ployhar holds a distinguished place in music education, with more than 800 published compositions to his name. He developed the Contemporary Band Course, now published by Alfred Music and adopted in schools across the United States and translated into French and Norwegian for international use. His orchestration expertise comes from direct study with Knud Havalde of the Danish Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and his works have been broadcast on network television and performed internationally across Europe, Japan, and the Pacific Rim.

Beyond composition, Ployhar spent over 19 years in public school teaching and has become a sought-after clinician and conductor at the college and university level. He holds degrees from Valley City State University (North Dakota) and Northern Colorado University, with graduate study in composition at California State University, Long Beach. His contributions to music education have earned him the National Band Association Citation of Excellence and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from his alma mater, and he has been a member of the American Bandmasters Association.
