About the Composer: Jared Barnes
Jared Barnes combines his work as a composer, conductor, and classroom educator in Iowa, where he has guided instrumental music programs for grades 5-12 for over a decade. His compositions have earned recognition through performances at honor bands, festivals, and the Midwest Clinic, while also appearing on prestigious lists including Stanton's Five Star Feature, J.W. Pepper Editors' Choice, and Bandworld's Top 100. His ensembles consistently achieve Division I ratings at the IHSMA Large Group Festival and were twice selected as the Class 1A High School Honor Band for the Iowa Bandmasters Conventions (2011, 2019).
A graduate of Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, Barnes brings classroom experience directly into his compositional voice. His understanding of young musicians' capabilities and growth trajectories shapes music that challenges without overwhelming, and speaks meaningfully to developing ensembles across the country.
