About the Composer: Eugene Butler

Eugene Butler brings decades of experience as a composer, conductor, and educator to his prolific catalog of over 650 published works. He earned degrees from Oklahoma University, Union Theological Seminary in New York, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he received his D.M.A. in composition. Throughout his career, he has received recognition including the ASCAP Standard Music Panel Award annually since 1972, the Burlington-Northern Railroad Recognition for Excellence in Teaching, and a National Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Texas-Austin.

Retired from his leadership role at Johnson County Community College in Kansas, Butler remains active as an adjudicator, clinician, and commissioned composer. His music is performed thousands of times each year across the English-speaking world, and he has conducted and taught in 39 states, three Canadian provinces, and England. His deep knowledge of choral literature and compositional craft informs every work he creates.
