About the Composer: Lois Brownsey

Lois Brownsey

Lois Brownsey studied at Temple University in her native Philadelphia and trained at the Guitar Workshop while establishing herself in musical theatre. Over a career spanning decades, she performed in pop, rock, and blues bands across the United States and internationally, playing bass and contributing vocals and original compositions. She has also written commercial jingles for major clients including AT&T and GMC Truck Dealers.

Brownsey's songwriting partnership with Marti Lunn Lantz has produced numerous choral works and song collections published by Alfred, with a distinctive focus on multicultural and seasonal material. Their catalog includes "Winter's Frost," "Japanese Snow Song," and thematic collections such as Celebrations around the World and The Wonders of the Earth. Based in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, Brownsey is a Celebrant and active community member; she and her husband Kent Heckman, a recording engineer, operate Red Rock Recording Studios, which has hosted the production of many Alfred projects.
