Eugene Butler

Eugene Butler's career spans decades as a composer, conductor, and educator whose work permeates choral music across North America. He holds degrees from Oklahoma University, Union Theological Seminary in New York, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he earned his D.M.A. in composition. His prolific output includes over 650 published compositions distributed through 47 publishing houses, alongside numerous unpublished works.

Throughout his career, Butler has earned recognition including Kansas Composer of the Year, the ASCAP Standard Music Panel Award annually since 1972, and a National Teaching Excellence Award. He retired in 1998 from his position as Director of Choral Activities and Music Theory at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, where he shaped generations of musicians. Butler remains active as an adjudicator and clinician, having conducted workshops and taught in 39 states, three Canadian provinces, and England.
