Roland Barrett has shaped multiple generations of musicians through his dual career as composer and educator. Since joining the University of Oklahoma's music theory and composition faculty in 2001, he has mentored undergraduate and graduate students while maintaining an active creative practice focused on 20th century techniques. His work as musical arranger for the Pride of Oklahoma marching band keeps him deeply connected to the instrumental music world he teaches.

With over two hundred published compositions and arrangements across symphonic band, chamber ensembles, and marching band, Barrett has established himself as a nationally recognized voice in wind music. His works have been commissioned and performed by the Dallas Wind Symphony, All-State and All-Region honor bands, and regional ensembles across the country. His music has appeared on NPR, at major conventions including the Midwest Band and Orchestra Conference, and at specialized venues like the National Trumpet Competition and International Trumpet Guild convention. Barrett is a multiple recipient of the ASCAPlus award and holds deep roots in the Oklahoma music education community.
