Her reputation for innovative teaching and dynamic presentations has made her a sought-after speaker at piano teacher conventions and workshops throughout North America.

Why we love this

This duet nails the balance between Halloween atmosphere and genuine musical fun. The primo gets a memorable melody that students love to perform, while the secundo player stays grounded in steady rhythmic support, making it accessible for pianists at different levels learning together.

What to expect

The Phantom strikes an inviting middle ground between spooky and playful, with a memorable melody that lodges in your head the moment you hear it. The secundo's steady rhythmic pulse creates a supportive framework that makes the primo's catchy tune feel effortless and light, creating an ensemble experience that feels both clever and approachable.

Who it's for

This piece works beautifully for late elementary through early intermediate pianists performing as a duet, whether in a studio recital or school setting. It's ideal when you need something Halloween-themed that's genuinely fun to play without requiring advanced technical skills from either player.

How to get the most out of it

  • Balance the primo melody so it sings above the secundo's rhythmic foundation without requiring the primo player to force the tone.
  • Lock into the secundo's tempo before the primo enters; a rock-solid accompaniment sets up the primo player for success.
  • Lean into the light-hearted character by avoiding overly dramatic dynamics; let the hauntingly catchy melody speak for itself rather than pushing for spooky intensity.
  • Practice the primo and secundo parts separately first, then work on entrances and transitions together to build confidence in the ensemble sound.

How to use it

Perfect for Halloween recitals or fall concert programs where you want a novelty piece that still delivers real musicality. Pair it with other seasonal selections or program it back-to-back with contrasting styles to showcase your students' range and collaborative skills.

Skills your students will build

  • Ensemble balance and listening between primo and secundo voices
  • Maintaining rhythmic independence while staying synchronized
  • Character interpretation and dynamic control in a light-hearted context
  • Quick learning of accessible yet memorable melodic material
