About the Composer: Bob Phillips
Bob Phillips (b. 1953) has shaped string education through decades of innovative composition and pedagogy. A conductor, teacher trainer, and prolific composer, he authored over 25 instructional series, including Sound Innovations and the genre-spanning Philharmonic collections (Jazz, Rock, Mariachi, Latin, and Fiddlers). His catalog exceeds 200 published works for orchestras and bands, with regular performances at the Midwest Clinic and recognition as an ASCAP award-winning composer.
For 27 years, Phillips built the Saline, Michigan string program into a national model with over 700 students. He founded the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic, which gained international prominence through 80+ annual performances, including appearances at the White House and prestigious festivals. Phillips has conducted youth symphonies, all-state orchestras, and honors ensembles across the country, and served as resident conductor and arranger for the Wintergrass Festival in Seattle for over a decade.
