Description
The Firebird (L'Oiseau de feu), K010 was composed in 1909-1910 by Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) as his first major ballet, commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev for the Ballets Russes in Paris. Based on Russian folk tales of the magical Firebird and the hero Prince Ivan, the work marks Stravinsky's breakthrough onto the international stage. The ballet premiered on June 25, 1910, at the Paris Opéra, conducted by Gabriel Pierné, and was an immediate success. The Firebird represents a crucial moment in early 20th-century music, bridging late-Romantic Russian traditions with the bold stylistic innovations that would define Stravinsky's later works. Today The Firebird remains one of the most frequently performed ballets and orchestral works in the repertoire, particularly through its popular concert suites (1911, 1919, and 1945). Instrumentation: 3(3rd dPicc2)+(Picc).3+1(EH).3(3rd dPiccCl)+1(BCl).3(3rd dCBsn)+1(CBsn): 4.3.3.1: Timp.Perc(4): Hp(3).Pno.Clst: Str (4.4.3.3.3 in set): Banda (3Tpt, 2TenWagTuba, 2BsWagTuba).
