Bruce W. Tippette

Bruce W. Tippette combines serious compositional training with deep roots in music education. A graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (Master of Music in composition) and Appalachian State University (Bachelor of Music in composition/theory and music education), he has built a career balancing concert works with collaborative projects ranging from film scoring to Cirque du Soleil commissions. His orchestral work Unconquered won the 2012 Mary Starling Composition Competition and received multiple performances by the Winston-Salem Symphony.

Based in Winston-Salem, Tippette teaches composition, theory, piano, and voice at the Community Music School of UNCSA while maintaining an active practice as a collaborative pianist and freelance engraver. His award-winning compositions span instrumental ensembles and choral works, with several titles published through Alfred Music. He brings both the craft of a working composer and the insight of a daily educator to every piece he writes.
