About the Composer: Bruce W. Tippette

Bruce W. Tippette

Bruce W. Tippette combines deep training in composition with hands-on experience in the classroom and rehearsal studio. He earned his Master of Music in composition from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and dual bachelor's degrees in composition/theory and music education from Appalachian State University. His orchestral work Unconquered won the 2012 Mary Starling Composition Competition and earned subsequent performances by the Winston-Salem Symphony.

Beyond concert works, Tippette has composed for choreographers, film, and collaborated with Cirque du Soleil on experimental projects selected in 2012, 2013, and 2014. He currently teaches composition, theory, piano, and voice at UNCSA's Community Music School, serves as Youth Music and Handbell Director at Augsburg Lutheran Church, and works as a collaborative pianist and rehearsal accompanist. His compositions have appeared internationally and continue to earn commissions from both choral and instrumental ensembles.
