About the Composer: Michael Souders

Michael Souders teaches elementary music at Colonial Heights Public Schools in Virginia while maintaining a prolific composing career with Alfred Music. His original composition "Thank You, Soldiers" became an internet sensation, reflecting his distinctive approach to what he calls "Positive American Music." His YouTube channel (msouders37) has accumulated over 4.5 million views and more than 3,600 subscribers, reaching educators and students across the globe.

Souders earned his Bachelor of Science in Music and Worship from James Madison University in 1989, where he performed with top ensembles, served as pianist for the jazz program, and studied composition and arranging under Robert W. Smith. Since 2005, he has consistently written music for his own students, ensuring his catalog speaks directly to real classroom needs and age-appropriate performance challenges. His background spans from Champersburg, PA through professional theater work and college-level ensemble performance.
