About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has established himself as a composer and conductor commanding equal respect across orchestral, band, and chamber music circles. His works have reached audiences at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Sydney Opera House, and Toronto Centre for the Arts, performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to school groups. He holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association, received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light.
As a guest conductor, Balmages regularly leads all-state and regional ensembles, university groups, and professional orchestras worldwide, appearing at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and numerous international venues. He earned the inaugural James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award and was commissioned by the University of Miami to compose for the presidential inauguration of Dr. Julio Frenk. His music has been performed at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service. Balmages currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
