Description
Teach viola with the popular Suzuki Viola School. The Suzuki Method® of Talent Education is based on Shinichi Suzuki's view that every child is born with ability, and that people are the product of their environment. According to Shinichi Suzuki, a world-renowned violinist and teacher, the greatest joy an adult can know comes from developing a child's potential so he/she can express all that is harmonious and best in human beings. Students are taught using the "mother-tongue" approach. Each series of books for a particular instrument in the Suzuki Method is considered a Suzuki music school, such as the Suzuki Viola School. Suzuki lessons are generally given in a private studio setting with additional group lessons. The student listens to the recordings and works with their Suzuki viola teacher to develop their potential as a musician and as a person. This CD of the Suzuki viola method, Volume 6, features recordings by William Preucil accompanied by Doris Preucil.

More about this title

About the Artist: William Preucil

William Preucil is a violist and pedagogue with deep roots in the Suzuki Method community. His work as a performer and recording artist for the Suzuki Viola School reflects a commitment to the sequential, listening-based approach that has shaped generations of string players worldwide.

Preucil's recordings serve as the sonic foundation for student learning in the Suzuki method, modeling tone production, intonation, and musical expression at each level of the curriculum. His accompaniment work with Doris Preucil demonstrates the collaborative listening that underpins the mother-tongue approach to music education.

Why we love this

This recording captures the Suzuki Vol. 6 repertoire with the clarity and tonal warmth that students need to internalize before they play. Preucil's interpretations honor both the pedagogical purpose of each piece and its musical integrity, so students hear not a simplified version, but a complete musical statement that motivates genuine artistry.

What to expect

The recording moves from warm-up exercises and technical studies into elegant Baroque works and transcriptions that reveal the viola's lyrical capabilities. Each piece unfolds with clear phrasing and focused tone, inviting the student to listen not just for notes, but for the musicianship beneath them.

Who it's for

This CD is essential for every student working through Suzuki Viola School Volume 6, whether in private lessons or group settings. Parents and teachers rely on it as the primary listening model that anchors daily practice and supports the mother-tongue acquisition process central to Suzuki instruction.

How to get the most out of it

  • Listen actively during practice sessions alongside your teacher, pausing to isolate specific passages and comparing your intonation directly to Preucil's model.
  • Use the accompaniment tracks to develop rhythmic independence and confidence when ensemble playing; practice with the recording before combining with other students in group lessons.
  • Study Preucil's phrasing and vibrato choices on works like the Bach Arioso and Adagio and Rondo in D to inform your own interpretation of these Baroque pieces.

How to use it

Play selections from this CD at the beginning of Suzuki group lessons as a listening/imitation activity before students perform their own versions. Use it as a reference during recital preparation so students internalize the complete musical arc of their assigned pieces before memorizing and polishing.

Skills your students will build

  • Intonation matching through careful listening
  • Tone production and vibrato control modeled by a professional performer
  • Phrasing and musicality in Baroque and Renaissance works (La Folia, Bach, Fiocco)
