About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages composes and conducts across orchestral, band, and chamber music with equal facility. His works have been commissioned and performed by professional symphony orchestras, university ensembles, and school groups in major venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Sydney Opera House, and the Toronto Centre for the Arts. He received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light, and holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association.
Balmages was honored with the inaugural James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award and was later commissioned by the University of Miami to compose music for the inauguration of the institution's 6th president. His music was performed at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service. As a guest conductor, he regularly appears at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, College Band Directors Conference, state ASTA conferences, and ensembles throughout North America, Australia, and Europe. He serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
