About the Composer: William Owens
William Owens brings three decades of band directing experience to his compositional work, having served as director in Texas schools before his 2014 retirement. A VanderCook College of Music graduate, he has established himself as a prolific composer with over 300 titles for concert band, string orchestra, and small ensembles since 1993, earning recognition through commissions from South Plains College, the American Bandmasters Association, and Phi Beta Mu International.
Owens's writing for young ensembles is grounded in practical classroom knowledge. His works appear on required music lists across the country and have become foundational repertoire in school band programs, with many pieces analyzed in educational texts. He holds membership in ASCAP, TMEA, and Phi Beta Mu International, and received both Distinguished Alumnus recognition from VanderCook and the Texas Bandmasters Association's Meritorious Achievement Award.
