About the Composer: Erik Morales

Erik Morales began composing professionally in 1985 when his high school band director commissioned him to arrange music for the marching ensemble in south Florida. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette (1989) and studied composition at Florida International University, establishing a foundation that would shape his prolific career across multiple genres.

Since 2002, Morales has published over 150 works spanning wind, orchestral, jazz, and chamber settings, with performances and commissions from schools and organizations nationwide. His trumpet writing has earned particular recognition, including first place awards at the 2006 and 2008 National Trumpet Competitions and premieres at major International Trumpet Guild conferences. In 2016, he was inducted into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, Morales has consistently prioritized the balance between artistic merit and educational accessibility.
