William Owens brings three decades of classroom experience to his compositional voice. A Chicago native who studied at VanderCook College of Music, Owens has built a catalog of over 300 works for concert band, string orchestra, and chamber ensembles since 1993. His writing combines accessibility with musical substance, earning him recognition through ASCAP membership, commissions from major organizations including the American Bandmasters Association, and inclusion on festival and contest lists across North America.

Owens spent 30 years leading a Texas band program before retiring in 2014, giving him firsthand knowledge of what young ensembles can accomplish musically. His work has been analyzed in music education texts and appears regularly on required lists for festivals and contests. He currently resides in Fort Worth with his wife Georgia.
