Description
Space Journey is a three-movement suite depicting the launch, orbit and return to earth of a spaceship. "Blast Off Into Orbit" begins with a dramatic launch portraying the spaceship powering into the atmosphere. "Zero Gravity" allows the listener to float in space as a Lydian melody in the flute provides a light, weightless feeling while the percussion accompanies on metallic instruments. "Re-entry to Earth" features a descending fanfare announcing the return of the ship through the atmosphere back to earth. The ceremonial theme depicts the spaceship breaking through the sky, and landing in full glory.

About the Composer: Brad Ciechomski
Brad Ciechomski directs bands at Harrison Middle School in Yarmouth, Maine, where his teaching earned him recognition as the 2005-2006 Teacher of the Year and selection as one of 51 American Star of Teaching honorees in 2008. He conducts four concert bands and three jazz ensembles while maintaining an active compositional practice that spans elementary through college ensembles, with commissions performed at MENC national conventions and festivals across multiple levels.
Beyond the classroom, Ciechomski is a sought-after clinician, adjudicator, and guest conductor throughout New England's district and state music festivals. As a freelance drummer, he has performed with jazz luminaries including Clark Terry, Mel Torme, Bob Mintzer, The New York Voices, and others, bringing performance experience directly into his work with student musicians. He holds degrees in composition from The University of New Hampshire, where he studied with Andrew Boysen Jr.
