Kirby Shaw

Kirby Shaw's choral arrangements have become standard repertoire in high schools and colleges across North America and beyond. A composer and arranger with more than 2500 published works, Shaw holds degrees in Music Education and Choral Composition from San Jose State University and a DMA in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington. His teaching career spans decades at institutions including Colorado State University, the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and currently Southern Oregon University, where he directs the Jefferson State Choral Coalition.

Shaw's work bridges classical choral traditions with contemporary vocal jazz and popular music. His arrangements have sold nearly 20 million copies worldwide and earned multiple ASCAP awards. Beyond the page, he has studied with jazz vocalists including Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau, and Jon Hendricks, bringing that improvisational sensibility into his educational compositions.
