About the Composer: Jay Althouse
Jay Althouse holds degrees in Music Education and Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus. Early in his career, he spent eight years working in rights and licensing for a major educational music publisher and served on the Executive Board of the Music Publishers Association of America. His compositional output spans over 800 published works across all choir levels, performed regularly throughout English-speaking countries.
Beyond composition, Althouse has shaped music education through numerous collaborations and publications. He has co-written children's musicals with his wife Sally K. Albrecht, compiled vocal solo collections including Folk Songs for Solo Singers, and authored foundational classroom resources such as Ready to Read Music and One-Page Composer Bios. His choral work I Hear America Singing, created with Albrecht, was performed by the San Francisco Girls and Boys Choirs at President Barack Obama's 2009 Inauguration. As a writer member of ASCAP and regular recipient of the ASCAP Special Award, Althouse continues to be recognized for his contributions to choral and educational music.
