About the Composer: Gary Fagan

Gary Fagan

Gary Fagan spent 36 years directing bands in Albemarle County before moving into university teaching and mentorship. His compositions and arrangements have reached audiences across the country, from the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic to performances at the White House and a gubernatorial inauguration. He holds degrees in Music Education from Bridgewater College and in graduate studies from James Madison University, where he now supervises student teachers and teaches arranging.

Fagan's contributions to music education have been recognized through awards from the Virginia Governor's School for the Visual and Performing Arts and the Piedmont Council of the Arts, as well as selection as Central Virginia Outstanding Middle School Teacher. Active as a clinician, adjudicator, and performer, he serves the music education community through leadership roles in MENC, the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, and the National Band Association. His dual expertise in composition and pedagogy informs every piece he writes.
