Bob Phillips (b. 1953) has shaped string education through innovative pedagogy and prolific composition. A conductor, teacher trainer, and author, he developed large-group teaching methods that now reach thousands of student musicians annually through his 25+ instructional series, including Sound Innovations and the genre-crossing Fiddlers Philharmonic, Jazz Philharmonic, Rock Philharmonic, and Mariachi Philharmonic collections. His arrangements and original works appear regularly at the Midwest Clinic, and he has published over 200 pieces for orchestra and band.

For 27 years, Phillips built the string program in Saline, Michigan into a nationally recognized model, establishing the Saline Fiddlers Philharmonic ensemble under his direction. That folk-fiddling group performed internationally, including multiple appearances at the White House and the Midwest Clinic, while maintaining a schedule of more than 80 performances annually. He has served as resident conductor and arranger for prestigious festivals and youth orchestras across the United States, and his instructional DVDs, String Clinics to Go, have become teaching resources in thousands of classrooms.
