About the Composer: Jack Wilds

Jack Wilds

Jack Wilds composes and teaches across a remarkably wide age and skill range, from elementary school musicians to professional ensembles. His work draws inspiration from visual art, literature, philosophy, and music itself, resulting in pieces that meet young players at their current level while demanding genuine artistry. He spent years as a public school band director before earning recognition through performances by groups including the Attacca Quartet, members of the New York Philharmonic and Atlanta Symphony, and ensembles at major festivals across the United States and internationally.

Currently a lecturer at Texas State University teaching composition, theory, ear training, and music technology, Wilds remains deeply connected to wind band pedagogy; his works for developing musicians number over 40 publications and appear regularly on festival repertoire lists worldwide. His clinician and adjudicator work keeps him engaged with bands at every level. He studied composition with Michael Ippolito, Chris Trapani, and Donald Grantham, and serves as Co-Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in San Marcos.
