About the Composer: Lois Brownsey

Lois Brownsey grew up in Philadelphia and studied at Temple University, where she developed skills in guitar and musical theatre before launching a career in songwriting and performance. From the 1970s through the 1990s, she performed as a bassist and vocalist in pop, rock, and blues ensembles across the United States and internationally, while simultaneously writing jingles for major brands including AT&T and GMC. Her partnership with Marti Lunn Lantz has produced numerous choral works and song collections for Alfred, with a particular focus on multicultural music and seasonal pieces.

Brownsey and Lantz have co-created popular titles such as "Winter's Frost," "Japanese Snow Song," and "The Colors of Winter," along with collections like Celebrations around the World and The Wonders of the Earth. She has also collaborated with Sally K. Albrecht on holiday-themed works. Now based in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, Brownsey co-owns Red Rock Recording Studios with her husband, recording engineer Kent Heckman, where many Alfred projects are produced.
