About the Composer: Erik Morales

Erik Morales began composing professionally shortly after high school, when a former band director commissioned him to arrange music for a south Florida marching band in 1985. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette (1989) and studied composition at Florida International University. Since his educational works first entered publication in 2002, Morales has built a catalogue of over 150 pieces spanning wind ensembles, orchestral, jazz, and chamber settings, with performances and commissions reaching schools and organizations across the country.

As a trumpeter, Morales has shaped the brass repertoire significantly; his trumpet ensemble works have earned first-place recognition at the National Trumpet Competitions (2006, 2008), and his Concerto for Trumpet in C and Piano premiered at the 2009 International Trumpet Guild conference. In 2016, he was inducted into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame. Throughout his work, Morales pursues a deliberate balance between artistic substance and educational accessibility, making his pieces valuable additions to both concert and learning environments.
