About the Composer: Loreta Fin

Loreta Fin's career spans five decades of string education, performance, and composition across Australia and internationally. A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, she served as Principal Viola with the Queensland Pops Orchestra for over 25 years while maintaining an active chamber music presence. Since 1993, she has directed strings at Somerville House School in Brisbane, where her influence on young string players remains central to her work.

As an adjudicator, clinician, and state advisor for strings in Queensland, Fin has shaped string education throughout Australia and presented at national conferences in both her home country and the United States. She has composed more than 100 works for string orchestra published worldwide, with particular expertise in writing for developing ensembles. Her contributions to string teaching earned her the National Award for Services to Music and String Teaching, and she has served on the Education Advisory Committee for the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Since 2015, she has regularly conducted state and national honours ensembles programs.
