About the Composer: Jay Althouse
Jay Althouse holds degrees in Music Education and Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was honored with the Distinguished Alumni award. His career spans both the publishing side of music education and composition; he spent eight years managing rights and licenses for a major educational publisher and served on the Executive Board of the Music Publishers Association of America.
As a composer, Althouse has over 800 choral works in print and maintains a presence across the English-speaking music world. He is a writer member of ASCAP and a regular recipient of the ASCAP Special Award. Beyond his compositions, he has collaborated with his wife Sally K. Albrecht on children's musicals, compiled respected vocal solo collections, and authored several pedagogical resources including The Complete Choral Warm-up Book, Accent on Composers, and reproducible classroom materials. His collaborative arrangement of I Hear America Singing was performed by the San Francisco Girls and Boys Choirs at President Obama's 2009 Inauguration.
