Rio Bravo draws on artifacts of iconic western film music to portray the rugged landscape surrounding one of the longest, most fabled rivers in North America. The challenging, arid region along the "brave river" that divides Mexico from the southwestern United States---depicted in many a song and story---is characterized by mountains, canyons, and desert plains. The river, known north of the border as the Rio Grande, has called to itself settlers, cattle drivers, gunslingers, and outlaws. About the Composer: Scott Watson
Scott Watson brings three decades of classroom experience to his work as a composer and educator. After leading instrumental programs across the Parkland School District in Pennsylvania, he now serves as Associate Professor of Music at Cairn University, where he continues to shape the next generation of musicians. His output of more than 120 published works reflects a rare synthesis of contemporary concert music sophistication and deep knowledge of what works in rehearsal rooms.
Watson's compositions have reached audiences at major American venues including the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, the Midwest Clinic, and the White House. He serves as exclusive composer and clinician for Alfred Publications, contributes to their Sound Innovations series, and authored the influential text Using Technology to Unlock Musical Creativity (Oxford University Press, 2011). His clinician work and guest conducting engagements keep him connected to the realities of festival and honor bands across the country.
