About the Composer: Erik Morales
Erik Morales was born in New York City in 1966 and began composing during his high school years in South Florida, when his former band director commissioned him to arrange music for the marching band in 1985. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Louisiana, Lafayette in 1989, after studying composition at Florida International University. His catalog now includes more than 150 published works spanning wind ensembles, orchestral settings, jazz, and chamber music, with performances featured internationally.
Morales has built a reputation for balancing artistic merit with pedagogical value, a philosophy evident across his educational wind, jazz, and string publications. As a trumpet player himself, he has made significant contributions to the trumpet repertoire; his trumpet ensembles earned first place at the 2006 and 2008 National Trumpet Competitions, and his Concerto for Two Trumpets was premiered at the 2013 International Trumpet Guild conference. He was inducted into the Louisiana Association for Jazz Education's Hall of Fame in 2016 and continues to receive commissions from schools and organizations nationwide.
