About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has established himself as a composer and conductor whose work crosses orchestral, band, and chamber music with equal fluency. His compositions have premiered in major concert halls including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to school groups. He received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light. His music was performed at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service, and he has received commissions from major universities.
As a conductor, Balmages maintains regular engagements with all-state, regional, university, and professional ensembles worldwide, including notable guest appearances at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and numerous state ASTA conferences. He holds alumni distinctions from James Madison University and the University of Miami, where he was commissioned to compose for a presidential inauguration. Currently, he serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
