About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages has established himself as a composer and conductor working across orchestral, band, and chamber music with equal fluency. His works have reached audiences in major venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to school groups at all levels.

Balmages is a recipient of the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light. He serves as an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association and has taught conducting at regional, all-state, and university ensembles worldwide. His music was performed during the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service, and he received the inaugural James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Visual and Performing Arts. Currently, he holds the position of Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
