About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages works across orchestral, band, and chamber idioms with equal fluency, having earned commissions and performances at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Sydney Opera House, and beyond. His accolades include the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest, and membership in the American Bandmasters Association. His music appeared in the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service and was commissioned by the University of Miami for its presidential inauguration.
As a guest conductor, Balmages regularly works with all-state and regional ensembles, university groups, and professional orchestras worldwide. He has led sessions at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and numerous state and national conferences. Currently Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic, he brings both compositional sophistication and deep understanding of how ensembles learn and perform.
