About the Composer: Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse holds degrees in Music Education and Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was recognized as a Distinguished Alumni. His career in music publishing informed his understanding of educational needs; he spent eight years managing rights and licenses for a major publisher and served on the Executive Board of the Music Publishers Association of America. As a composer, Althouse has established himself as a prolific voice in American choral writing, with more than 800 works in print across all choir levels and performance contexts.

Althouse's contributions to music education extend beyond composition. He is a writer member of ASCAP and a regular recipient of the ASCAP Special Award. His collaborations with his wife, Sally K. Albrecht, have produced children's musicals and widely adopted educational resources including The Complete Choral Warm-up Book and Accent on Composers. He has also authored classroom materials designed to strengthen music literacy and composer knowledge. His work with the North Carolina Master Chorale and his current service on the National Advisory Board of the Folk Art Society of America reflect his ongoing commitment to folk traditions and choral artistry.
